Advice for Scotland trip, July 2015
hello, for our vacation this summer, my wife and I decided to make us in Scotland. we will leave the whole month of July, we booked the ferry Calais - Dover, for the rest, we'll see there.
We would welcome advice from essential places to visit in Scotland but also in the UK. we love the natural places. I am passionate about cars, I have of course a Defender, but also, I just restore a Austin Mini, I'm interested in good addresses on such vehicles (gatherings, garages, exchange scholarships, museum), in a word of the must places for auto enthusiasts.

I thank you in advance. Wink

There are a few events with SLROC in July, details here

http://www.slroc2.co.uk/index.php/events/c...2015/7/1/-

The driving day on the 12th anyone can turn up, I believe this will be at Cambusbarron near Stirling

The others you can go and watch or compete in the Tyro perhaps, but probably have to join to do that 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6

A couple of posts:

GREENI's excellent trip: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic15011.html?highlight=plockton

Northwest Scotland is without doubt the most picturesque.

Places like Plockton, the White Sands of Morar, Applecross, Balnekail Bay, Sandwood Bay, the Pie Shop at Lochinver, and many of the islands are simply stunning.

I believe you can use a Land Rover to pass George Orwell's cottage on Jura, and get to one of the largest natural Whirlpools (Corryvreckan) as well, but not done that yet!

You could call into the museum at Gaydon which is full of Land Rovers and other interesting cars etc -

and also since you may be passing the Huddersfield Land Rover Centre, whilst not a museum, does have some interesting vehicles on sale at times -

Strang has beaten me to it, but Gaydon for anyone with an interest in Land Rover's/Mini/Austin products.

Coventry Motor Museum isnt to far from there and has just had a bit of a revamp as well 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone
2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone

Are you coming in your defender?

If you are, search for 'highland all terrain' on Google- its my old boss (Ian Brown) he runs 4x4 tours on the Ardverikie Estate (Of Monarch of the Glen & Salmon Fishing in the Yemen amongst others) He is a thoroughly decent bloke and has access to tracks and areas of the Highlands that are otherwise not accessible easily.

I know the West Coast especially around Fort William very well, if you need any information drop me a PM.

You must go to Loch Tummel and see the "Queen's View" it is simply stunning.

I'd also recommend a distillery tour or two if you like your whisky. Edradour is quite nice and not too far from Loch Tummel. The Dunkeld region in general is very pleasant.

Hi

There is a absolutely gorgeous place just outside Milngavie called Mugduck Country Park. I cannot recommend highly enough that you go there, there is lots of history in that place and some stunning scenery.

I spent a lot of my childhood there and i go there every year and im never let down by the natural beauty.

Best Regards

I highly recommend the vintage car rally at Glamis Castle on 11-12 July

Glamis Castle is a great visit in its own right too

Thank you for your advice, I will mark the points on the map to see which route we'll take. I thought to visit the museum Land Rover, but as my English is very bad,but I'm afraid I don't understand everything during the visit.
We will come with our Defender and we believe sleeping in campsites or sometimes by nature but I think this is not tolerated. Moreover, do you know some links campsites in Scotland or more generally in the UK?

If you see us on the road don't hesitate to stop us to say hello Wink

Hi, if you can update us where you will be, we will look out for you.

Thanks MartinK for putting my thread up, I enjoyed looking through it!!

Camping 'by nature' (wild) is okay in Scotland, here is a link below, though commonly used by motorhome/RV people, so not too adventurous for a Defender.

Wild camping is generally allowed under the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, however camping with a vehicle is not defined as wild camping and as such is not permitted.

However there are many thousands of lay-bys and parking areas in the rural parts of the country where many people regularly do so without issue, so you won't have a problem if you want to do it that way.
