Did the tour this morning. Absolutely brilliant and a little bit sad at the same time. A little bit sad to see a great vehicle in the last months of its production life. Absolutely brilliant because everyone you meet on the tour really love it and really love that you are there showing some appreciation for it and it is genuinely interesting seeing production in this level of detail and at this scale. We had a great guide (Rod) who'd been at LR since being an apprentice and worked in special projects and SVO. He really brought the thing to life with personal stories and memories.
I can't recommend this tour enough to anyone else considering whether to go or not. BTW. there was an adventure 110 and autobiography 110 set of panels set to one side in the final fit area but I didn't see either of these going down the line anywhere. Cheers Joe |

That's weird. The matt paintfinish is only available on an autobiography isn't it? Could have sworn it was a 110 set of panels but could easily be mistaken as there was loads of "panel sleds" with all the variants on them. Cheers

Did the Defender celebration tour as well today. We had same guide as josefk (Rod), but ours was the afternoon tour.
Firstly, I highly recommend this tour, its well worth the time and money. The biggest impact for me was appreciating exactly how much time and effort that goes into to making these iconic vehicles. I was truly humbled by seeing the assembly line and will find it far less painful parting company with my money in a few weeks after this! I did hope to see our Defender on the line (build date is this week), but even with the 'Common Order No' and the 'M' number they weren't able to identify ours. Mind you if it were painted yet I would've spotted it as ours is red and 90% of the cars were grey, black or white. Personally I found the current (modern) assembly line more interesting than the heritage exhibition they've put together. This part is quite small and is really a museum exhibit. Landrover Solihull is an impressive set-up and like josefk I find it sad to imagine the Defender line being dismantled at the end the year. Manufacturing of this vehicle has evolved over many years - right down to the fine detail of how things are organised. It takes decades to refine this sort of thing and only months dismantle... I done the tour today ,it was excellent , everyone should do it.our guide was Rich ,very informative
Enjoyed all of the tour . I ve a 90 sw heritage coming so it was nice to have had a good look around the Heritage on show. I seen a completed 110 expedition bound for Oz and the sticker implies that it will be off site by 9/4/15 ( I have a picture which shows the windscreen picture that includes the vin I some one here has one ordered, I ll forward the pics) There was one also in the assembly line A few complete autobiography's around also If anyone has any interest in the defender it's great value at only £45 ,you ll soon not be able to see it ever again I done a half day driving after lunch , first took a 110,with 200 miles on the clock and then a new range rover ,both are very capable and do it in such different ways ,Nathan was our guide ,he was great and very interesting with all his different land rover experiences Denis |

Just returned from the celebration tour this morning.
Fantastic! Highly recommended. Our guide Richard was very informative and knowledgeable. It really is amazing how much effort goes in to creating a Defender, from the actual man power and numbers to the logistics of transporting body's from one area to another. You can understand why it's time for change in the production. It has a very special feel about it, especially final production area, all the different models lined up and the attention they all get. The heritage model was in the celebration area of the tour. I took a few pictures which I will upload later but it's fantastic, no air con, radio or heated screen/seats, manual windows etc but it looks fantastic, the paint work is very nice and the tan seats are a nice touch along with the old logos on the mudflaps and the metal rear badge.  |

Turns out that our Defender was finished the day after our tour on Tuesday. Our dealer picked it up direct from the factory and its sitting in their garage ready for final prep. Hope to see it this weekend. Very excited! 2015 110 XS CSW Montalcino Red with Black Pack

I am not sure what is happening in the rest of the world but here in South Africa - Defender prices are way up with second hand prices competing with those of new vehicles! The concept of "investing" in a Defender has taken on a whole new meaning!

The heritage is.... Very green ,ie with the HD green wheels and colour coded arches ,the silver hinges and roof certainly help break up the mass of green ,the front grille is plasticly to touch but it looks great and the badges look fantastic. The old style mud flaps are right at home and give more of a classic look. Inside the seats are great ,I love the colour it really compliments the green outside ,the centre dash works well in the body colour ,the model I seen was lhd and had no radio or a/c ,the roof cloth is white/creamy coloured ,the coloured rings around the gearsticks look good as does the silver coloured handles inside I was a bit take by how green it was but I must say after a very short time i see it works absolutely great I like all the small mentions of HUE between the seats and the wing sticker ( the back seats have no land rover or HUE on them anywhere un like the front seats ) I think for the price of the heritage that is a good effort by LR I am looking forward to its arrival I had a good look around a Adventurer ,must say they re really nice ,the colour isn't as bright as I thought it was going by the pictures,I would love to have one coming but it's very expensive compared to the heritage I have a video and lots of pictures if you want I can email them to as I don't know how to upload them Denis |
