They're the same wheel. Blindo used to be the name referring to the F-15 Texh which was the only one the MOD used. 15 spoke design with steel cups inserted into the bolt holes. There's a YouTube vid of the factory somewhere.

Ricardo chose the Blindo because of it's strength. The other useful feature was that if the vehicle hit an ied, the wheel would shatter instead of turning in shrapnel like the HD wolf wheels would.

The point about the run flats isn't a major problem as the vehicles that were equipped with run flats had special plastic inserts fitted too. The looked like a big plastic bolt-together polo mint, in primer green. Ex military wheels will have been battered by a million miles in crappy conditions though..
N.O.S. Military ones would be a good idea, but you don't find them just knocking about. They will have been bought as batches for projects like RWMIK and there will not have been surplus.

There's a place in S wales selling some at the moment from a load of military land rovers. They're the Evo Corse version. New take off, in drab olive green.

He had a load of green Dakar wheels in stock last week. Plus the run flat rings if you're interested in putting an extra 15kg inside each wheel!

Don't forget that the Evo Dakars are different to the Blindos, have a different spoke pattern, and a lower load rating. They are however similar and I have seen military vehicles with a mix of the two types.

AFAIK, the Blindos were fitted during upgrades to the WMIKs, for increased load. Not Pulse or Snatch.
The work wasn't done by LR, and they didn't supply the wheels.
Could be wrong, but seem to recall it was Ricardo that did the work.

Silverline is probably your only chance of getting any new ones.

Yes, it was Ricardo that did the RWMIK+ upgrade.
Also did the VIXEN upgrade to Snatch, they had Blindos too. (And a 2.8 engine with auto box)

Ricardo were showing this Defender at the 2009 DVD Show as their bid for the "Re-life of the LandRover utility fleet"

Interesting - looks like Blindos on the ground and a Dakar as the spare.

The most noticeable difference is the number and spacing of the spokes.

The Dakar has twelve unevenly spaced (alternately small and large gaps).

The Blndo has fifteen evenly spaced.

Simples! Thumbs Up

Thanks - I'm going to have to count (in a Rainman fashion) spokes on every Blindo/Dakar type wheel I see from now on...

It's easier just to go on the spacing: even = Blindo, uneven = Dakar.
