Why on earth would you want to remove a TDCi to replace it with a TD5?

Because it sounds better. Its more reliable. More tuning potential.

Apart from that no reason Laughing

I give you the sound, but disagree on both the other points! Very Happy

They are equally reliable (you'll find horror stories for both, of course, but they're both good engines), and they're both tunable to a comparable degree.

For the record, my personal view is that the TD5 is the best engine LR ever designed, but the TDCi has produced a better overall vehicle in the Defender.

I also know that people will debate this until hell freezes and never agree!

I wonder if the same "which is better" debate happened when the 1600 was increased to 1997cc in 1952/3? I expect so!

You can disagree if you like. Doesnt mean im wrong. Laughing

Yes the td5 engine had issues at the beginning but they were soon ironed out. Cant say that for the Puma...

Also, you can get waay more power out the 5 cyl td5 than you can the Puma. Thats just a fact im afraid. Not saying it would be cheap, but tuning any engine is expensive.

I've got the best of both worlds then, a BAS mapped 2.2 and a TD5 Ner Ner

Which one is better is a tricky thing. The tuned 2.2 is excellent for road use, still OK off road, and is my daily drive. TD5 (not tuned - yet !) is excellent off road and is fine for journeys where you don't want to do over 65mph.

So, which one is better - neither as they are both good vehicles in my opinion.

Which one gives me more smiles per mile ....... probably the TD5 Thumbs Up
