Questions about Mantec Snorkel - Resolved

I'm looking at getting one of the plastic jobbies for my new Defender. Just got a few questions:

* Does the RAI just bolt and seal to the outside?
* If so to seal the air intake system is there anything else you need to do to the ducting from the guard to the air filter? I've noticed there seems to be an open drain in the front of the filter box, is there anything else?
* What's up in the turret section of this snorkel? Is it a precleaner or does it just bring air in from the rear of the turret?
* Are all the metal bits galvanised, stainless or designed to rust?
* Who is a good exporter to talk too? If I go to Mantec will they just point me at the Australian agent?

I'll be importing it direct from UK (because I can do this and still come out ahead money wise). Safari are now saying they will have a unit for the TDCi by end of September, but I'm betting it will be priced above AU$600 (the Mantec is just below AU$600). To either one I then have to add at least AU$100 freight to get it to me. So if I can get one from the UK delivered for less than AU$400, makes sense Very Happy

Hi

A couple of threads to help you

Mine http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic20-15.html

AndrewS http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic106.html

I sealed the air box, on the inner wing, as well as the pipe connection into the air filter housing !!

Well I got my Mantec today, can't complain about the UK mail system - I know there are plenty who do - as it only took 6 days to get here. I ordered a Bearmach wheel carrier from an Australian stockist and it took over 2 weeks!

I recall seeing a comment that the fitting instructions are almost non-existent. Now that is an understatement Sad

Anyway I'm now armed with Andrew's gallery photo's all nicely printed for reference. Thanks Andrew for posting them up.
