For the first time ever I have a vehicle that I don't want to part with I usually buy a car and on the way home I'm thinking of what I can get next. I use my td5 90 most days and have no second thoughts about driving to Cornwall or the Highlands in it with the tin tent on the back.

Dropped my 90 off for a service and cambelt yesterday, so today I am pacing the floor and my wife says I am grumpy. Of course I am. The stress of the unknown plus I need my daily fix of driving her!

I drive three times a week to Manchester, sometimes in a Clio sometimes in the Defender. Mostly the journey is on the A55 and M56, I have no real preference which car I use on the drive. However once off the A55 and driving home down the country lanes I so much prefer the Defender, I can see over the Hedgerows and look at the countryside, in the Clio all I see is the road.

Many and varied from a couple of caterfields at Croft to a rather hairy chested 600 horse escort cosworth. And yes I know a defender isn't comparable to such machines but relative to a jimny it is. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Really looking forward to it!!
To Portugal and back in 2 weeks. I just hope the defender behaves itself... Smile

Thanks Guys.
Well i did 3712 miles in 2 weeks. Not quite the 4000...
It was the only trip i have done to Portugal that ran without any problems Very Happy
I had done it before in a 90 300tdi,a td5,a 110td5 defender and twice in a disco 3.
The Puma was brilliant!! Very Happy
Also had it remapped and it has made a big difference.
Very happy with the way the trip went.
I am sure i will be doing it again and if anybody wants to come we can try and sort something out.

I drove down to Caceres in Spain then across to Portugal, down to the Algarve then up to Lisbon, Obidos, Porto
and spent new years eve in Viana do castelo. Yes it was great. Even had time to get the defender muddy...
I will update my topic.

Not necessarily, I'm a firm believer that vehicles that sit and do nothing deteriorate and have much more issues than vehicles that gets used and serviced regularly.

But yes obviously things will wear out quicker when used more.

Agree there, my 90 is a third car- there's a correlation with it sitting around and things going wrong with it. Definately. 2001 Td5 CSW (weekend and snow mobile) Plenty of lights, M/T tyres EGR delete, roofrack, swing away wheel carrier, snorkel.
