Lost all gears any ideas
Having a good day! broke down 500yds from home when I lost all gears apart from 4th. Got home using low box but a little concerned. Had noticed a problem earlier in the day when selecting 3rd and reverse and first had nearly a foot of play! Only done 20-30 miles since it first showed.
Slightly concerned as put a new clutch and ashcroft recon box around 2k ago, but can only assume it's gearbox. Going to drop the oil out Monday and have a look but any ideas welcome.

Possible gearlever selector bolt come loose , maybe in top housing on the box

have you got all gears in low box ? If so then problem shouldn't be in main box

if you got all gears in low range , then would say problem should be on high range side , but that wouldn't explain the odd gearlever problem

Was going to mention splined shaft failiure but seeing as you mention 4th still available that rules that out.

If our talking about td5 box ( as your profile ) then 4th gear is direct drive though the box , so problem could be on 2 motion shaft ( laygear )in the box , the drive runs though 2rd motion shaft for other gears

but then you should have 4th high range and 4th low range

Yep sounds like the end of the layshaft has snapped off inside the 5th gear housing.
Thats what happens when the big nut is done up with an airgun instead of being torqued up !

Well dropped the oil today and all was how it should be. No bits of metal and plenty of oil. So looking like the selector.

Doctor google has suggested my problem will be the selector bolt come lose, ant this is a relatively simple fix? However I can't find any information / pictures on where and how to do this, would be grateful for any information.
