Looks like a good bit of kit, I saw people on facebook complaining that if you took the rear prop off that they could still take the defender, this is true but it's in-keeping with the "layered" approach. It isn't a 10 second job to take off a prop, especially when you can't roll the truck around to get at the bolts. As has been said many times before on here and other forums, if they want it badly enough they will take it, our job is just to slow them down enough for it to not be worth the risk.
My only hope is that the key has to be inserted to activate the lock. Wouldn't want to knock that with your leg at 70 on the motorway.

What is the location of this inside the cabin? Is the lock reachable with a cubby box installed?

Lock fits through a hole you have to drill in the upright of the drivers seat box:

If they can get it Thatcham approved it may bring an insurance discount that would perhaps offset the high cost. It appears from Lorryman's facebook link that this may be the route they are taking. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

just use a hiab , just use a tilt n slide , just use a disc cutter , just use 20x Geoff capes's to carry it away , the list can go on and on . it boils down to if yours has it and someone else's doesn't yours is more secure
couple of things I would like to know , will it unlock if there is a load on it like parked pointing down or up a hill , how do you get at it to unlock / lock |

Agreed, as part of a layered approach it looks great, and particularly so because it is convenient in operation (and there isn't a hindredweight of steel rattling around loose in the cab when you're driving).

you can always take the load off it if it won't unlock with load on. Just wobble it on the clutch like you have to wobble the steering wheel to get the steering lock off on a car. |

Here's a fuller picture of the Rat Trap - looks like it replaces the transmission brake back plate:
but still no full explanation of what it is locking and how? Does it just stop the drum brake shoes from being released? |

it locks the drum not the shoes by the look of it on the video
yes welded to standard backplate , will be done on a exchange basis maybe how you get at it to lock it , I would like to know ( don't really know why I want to know as I have disc and no drum anyway so not much good to me anyway  ) |

hmm I don't like the price, but having just dealt with insurance companies I can cope it. I also like that it's in position, not something floating around to become a possible projectile or taking up space.
I'm still curious if it can be unlocked under load however, or even engaged without more than the standard hand brake surge. My Defender and travels |
