These fobs don't transmit on a single frequency unlike the old ones - the receiver of the alarm unit will be a significantly different design.



Incidentally from some entries on Topix it seems that the alarm on the MY'15 defender may have an active antenna unlike the old 'bit of string'.

As you have found the new plip does not work with the old unit,, i have a large stash of the new style plipsin stock ready for a project im working on to try and apply them to the older models that do not have the correct reciver in them.

Hopefully i can get back on to the project early next year and build a conversion.

Why do you like it Steve? Convenience perhaps?

By combining your key and 10as fob into one convenient unit you are effectively removing a potential security layer on your Defender. The 10as fob should in theory never be kept on the same keyring as your key. Lose one or the other your Defender still has a layer left, lose the combined unit and it's self explanatory. The most basic principles of security are quite often overlooked for convenience. With the increase reported in burglaries and the associated theft of keys why make it easier for them? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Ian at IRB provided me with a new all-in-one plip/key for my 2013 Puma a few months ago.

Much easier than fiddling with different bits. 2003 Td5 110 Hardtop
Now a 2013 110 USW too.

Why is a key on a ring with the plipper more secure than a combined unit? 2003 Td5 110 Hardtop

Oh I see!

Has anyone, in the history of motoring, kept them apart?

It's never even been an option on any other car I've had.

It's hard enough finding the key when I want to go out, never mind two things. Confused 2003 Td5 110 Hardtop
Now a 2013 110 USW too.

Down to personal choice and/or convenience dependant on opinion! Personally with all the stolen statistics and the fact it costs absolutely nothing to take advantage of the extra 'layer' supplied with a Defender and the seperate fob my choice too was made to keep the two apart, the fob being on a lanyard.
I too considered a combined key/fob but binned it as a bad idea! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
