Access to the 10AS unit
Evening all,

I`am trying to communicate with my 90`s 10 AS unit, the car is running fine and there are no problems.

Once every couple of months I plug in the works LDV diagnostic kit, (which covers all makes of land rover and a lot of other vehicles).
Just to see if anything`s going wrong, however despite how I try I`am unable to gain access to the 10AS module.
All I get is" unable to gain access due to serial link error cycle ignition".

My question is, am I doing something wrong, can you talk to the unit thru the obd socket, do you need a special lead, is there another plug. Or the more lightly cause it just can`t do it.

Any advice would be nice, Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.

You should be able to communicate to it through the serial port, there are no special leads or connectors required. I will be surprised if you can do it with the ldv kit as immobiliser diagnostics aren't usually covered by anything other than a dealer level or manufacturer specific diagnostic tool. I would be tempted to find someone with sdd/auto logic/ nano com and then it will probably communicate fine Thumbs Up

To access the 10AS with a diagnostic tool it has to be done with the ignition off. Thumbs Up

Thanks for advice lads,

I will have a go with the ignition off and if that does`ent work I`ll leave well alone.
Knowing my luck at some point I will get cocky and end up killing the 10 AS ecu. Giving myself an expensive lesson in what not to do.
