Rats....
bloody things!

with chickens come rats. and we have a small 'infestation' (more like Ronald and a few mates) lol

i have been poisoning them with coated corn, but there chewing the poison off and eating the corn!!! Shocked
i managed to whoop 2 over with the are rifle as i traped them in the coop. but i need nightscope. lol

so whats best method? looking on ebay i see lots of poison blocks, these anygood? atleast then they cant chew off the poison with these.

i also want to get some rat traps but what is the best bait?

cheers Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Change your poison. I doubt they are just taking off the poison, it is in my experience normal for Powdery residue looking like husks to be left, and occasionally a dead rat/mouse. I use neosorexa gold and can't fault it. Keep it topped up and down all year around

^^ Thumbs Up The little Censored are becoming resistant to some of the poisons so you need to change from whatever it is you are using. For instant results get hold of some of your local lads with terriers. Steve.

MOG is right. In some areas of the UK rats are showing resistance to certain poisons. My advice, if the poison is not working, to:
1) Change poison and make sure it is fresh-poisons have sell-by dates,
2) If using wax blocks, make sure they are secured, otherwise they'll carry them away for a rainy day,
3) Get yourself some good breakback traps and lay them in runs and around the edges of any buildings, bait with something that resists mould and doesn't go off too quick.
4) Remember that rats are neophobic and don't like change, so once you put some measures in place give them time.
5) As suggested air rifles or terriers
6) Employ a BPCA qualified Pest Controller Whistle Pestf*rce
Always remember that where rats are present diseases are not far away, take necessary cleaning precautions when you're finished.
Good Luck

wow, lots of great advice here.

i cant say terriers/cats are a good idea as there is bait everywhere and today i found 3 dead rats and a mouse. so were making good progress. and the neighbour had 2 rats too. Thumbs Up

worst part is having to go and find the bodies and dispose of them. dont want anythng else finding the poisoned bodies.

im going to order a couple of types of poison and then alternate between the both so the cant get use to it and a couple of metal back breaking trap. but doubt i will use mars bars for bait as i just love them!! haha Whistle
i also know to pin down the traps and bait as they can carry them away if death isnt instant.

lets see if i cant get rid of 'em for good.

many thanks. Wink
