Stu,
The rust issues with the bumper etc. are a bain. Whilst the truck is in for other work it does make sense to get it swapped out under warranty. However as I am sure you already know it is just a 'sticking plaster' fix until it rots out again. Ultimately I either swapped out the inferior bits or took them off and treated them to the finish and protection they should have been adorned with at the factory and/or supplier. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Got to agree. I gave my new bumper a coat of paint on the front and a coat of dinitrol on the back and two years on there's not a spot of rust! If your going to keep the defender it's worth spending a little time and effort just to save the hassle of warranty.

I doused my winch bumper in Dinitrol of the back and underside and give the front face a wipe over with ACF50 after each wash , helps keep it looking it's best 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon

Hi St
It's an anti corrosion treatment developed for the aviation industry which has become popular with motorcyclists http://www.acf-50.co.uk/acf-50.htm Makes a difference, I use it on my hinge bolts bumper winch wire etc 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon 1971 Bowler Tomcat 88 4.2 V8 Auto 2022 110 250D XS |

I've coated the inside of my front bumper with Bilt Hamber's Dynax S50 (applied by brush) and I include the rest in my regular washing and waxing routine.
I've also made up plastic panels which extend the standard wheel arch liners downwards to keep the water thrown up by the wheels out of the bumper in the first place: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

Thanks very much. I've got some of Gwyn Lewis's front mudflap extenders on the van too:
Click image to enlarge and I've made rear wheel arch liners out of the same 3mm plastic as the front ones: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Since I took the last photos, I've removed the standard LR mudflaps as the turbulence between them and my new ones actually threw all the muck up onto the underneath. I've also extended mine down at the back by 100mm with 4mm rally mudflap material to try to keep the muck off the rear crossmember. Clearly I'm not going 'off road' any time soon though! I'm waiting to see how this lot holds up to being packed with snow this winter, if we get any of course. There could be a re-design come spring if they get damaged by it. |

Yeh got her back from the dealers and great service and the truck feels like and new car and prob better then when i got her, all issues sorted so got the truck back home and had a afternoons polish and started doing a little waxing on the underside, now this weekend the steering guard will be off for a re paint up in gloss black and re fit the sound system but mat treat myself to a new Alpine head unit ........... weel will keep me in the good books and the misses may need a new head unit soon and now seeing the pics above may make some front flaps to stop the stones hitting the bumper etc, cheers for the ideas guys
