I'm feeling blasphemous... Toyota LC
SOOOOOO..... flicking around on the internet and i found myself reading about the 76 series Land Cruiser on the Toyota South Africa site....

In a nutshell:
- 5 seater station wagon
- 4.5L V8 diesel (~200 bhp, 450NM) - I've driven in the 200 series with the same engine, its an absolute peach Thumbs Up
- 3 x locking diffs
- selectable 4WD, hi or low
- 70cm wade depth
- disc brakes all round, vented fronts
- AC, Bluetooth, USB, AUX standard
- 130L tank, ~28 to the gallon gives theoretical range over 750mi
- 3.5T trailer weight, tow electrics standard, 5yr warranty etc etc
- Even meets EURO4 so theoretically UK importable?

I even think its pretty good looking....

And it comes out at somewhere around £34k inc tax etc, roughly what a defender 110 XS would cost you.... Whistle

HMMM

Not available in Chile...
Not much funny as a Defender...
And the SWMBO doesnt like it.

If all the stories refarding reliability are true and if were available here, will be a big contender of the defender. Eduardo

Not quite the same engine. Its a single turbo as opposed to twin in the 200.

The Engines don't seem to be that well liked over here, not compared to the 6cylinder anyway

Also downsides, to counteract your list.

Leaf sprung rear
dramatically different track front to rear
$15-20k more than a defender here in the same market.
3yr/100km warranty here, not 5yr.
No 7 seat option I don't believe
horrible wheel articulation.

Having said that, they do look quite good, and would definitely be an option if the Defender wasn't available 2001 90 HT 6.0LS/6spdAuto.
2003 90 td5 soft top.
2014 90 XS SW 2.2.

Spec isn't as good as the ill fated DC100 and has all the same shortfall if not more.

If it had a land rover badge you would all hate it. Where are the removable panels, not enough rivets, etc etc www.td5.org

Yeah I suppose it's more of a workhorse than an out and out offroader.

Does make you think that a little bit of progression for the defender would've been a good thing though!

Rather than nothing for ~25yrs and then completely replace it (hopefully!) Cheers, David

I have a friend with a lifted big tyred 80 series land cruiser 4.2 which is quite a thing. No more or less reliable than my 90 but it is 6 years older though has less miles. I know that off road the comparison 8 like apples and upright pianos but it seems quite a capable machine. I think I could be persuaded if I didn't have to use it for farm work but that is not likely any time soon. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.
