What are the engine mounts like? Could well be exhaust touching chassis/body when under load

that will be next thing i check actually. last week when i had all my junk out boot for sound proofing session, I notice tailpipe rattling against something.when i reloaded the boot i couldn't hear rattle anymore so forgot about it. worth a look.
would an exhaust touching chassis make a booming sound though? My 109 thread

Just a thought.

Was having a clean and tidy yesterday and noticed the centre seat floor section is very boomy if you hit it. Have a check make sure there is nothing vibrating underneath it or any nuts are loose?

this is killing me!!!!
had another investigate around for booming noise, Im still convinced its coming from air box induction side!!.
induction sounds like a sports exhaust when revving!!! and i can feel slight air movement OUT the induction vent!!!
if i take oil filler cap off its louder!!! My 109 thread

UPDATE:
replaced rear and center silencer with new allmakes items.
its a bit quieter BUT! the booming is STILL there!! Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

this is getting very irritating as its so uncomfortable driving it is so loud!

i suppose the next thing to replace is the front pipe!. the one that is on does not have flexi, its a straight pipe, so maybe i will try a flexi as that might reduce a few more vibrations too!
the tail pipe really does move alot when ticking over i would guess vibrates around 2" side to side! could be an engine moiunt but i don't get any vibes through either of the gear sticks! My 109 thread

how did you get on with the head change job in the end
I fitted a flexi joint in my front pipe on a 200tdi , just brought the joint and welded it in (janspeed stainless exhaust was fitted ) did seem to make a diffirance to vibrations through the body

Not got a cracked intercooler?

Cracked or delaminated intercooler pipe?

Exhaust mounts not broken or cracked?

Does your exhaust bolt to the side of the engine? if so check the bolts are done up tight and that the plate is not cracked or loose.

No sooty marks around the exhaust header or turbo flanges?

Really feel for you with this it is dragging on a bit now Sad

all new studs put in new head and all torqued up no props Thumbs Up also mirror finish mating faces with new gasket Thumbs Up
hoses seem fine but thinking about replacing as matter of course! had intercooler off for clean out didnt see any cracks but then that could be easily missed.
could a dodgy wastegate cause it to boom? My 109 thread

Dodgy wastegate would give you performance issues however give it a wiggle and see if it is seized though I don't think it would be as you would get a decrease in performance.

Timing ok?

Bonnet Bushes not overly warn and allowing bonnet to rub on engine?

right took the bonnet off and done some filming.
it only booms under load, any gear its rev dependent.
so to eliminate wind noise as best as pos i stuck it in low range 2nd gear.
from outside you cant really hear the booming! but inside you def can!

edit: you need good speakers as its very low frequency! i can here it on my imac but not on my laptop or phone! My 109 thread

Woah dude that is some serious booming.

Question, did it do it before you put down the sound deadening? Might be the deadening has brought the frequency in line with the exhaust resonance.

Exhaust rubbers warn?

Try wrapping some exhaust cloth around your exhaust pipe- might help change the resonance.

Sounds more like a resonance issue than something loose.
