Which TDI Axle do i need
Hi guys

I will soon be buying a disco1 rear axle to fit to my 1988 2.5TD ( 200TDI ) 90 as i want to go to disc's all round and i know about the diff flang's being different to both 200 and 300 axle's but no they can be swapped over but are both axle's a direct fit or will i need to buy a disco 200TDI rear axle Confused Graham

I do not think a disco axle is a direct fit you will need to change 3 bolt flange to 4 bolt not forgetting spacer ,and may need to make some fresh brake pipes
Why not just get a Defender axle there are loads about which are a direct fit

TBH i have only been looking on ebay but all of the defender ones i have seen were drum axle's but there seams to be a few 200 disco axles and a lot of 300 disco / defender axles so just thought i would ask first Smile Graham

Do you mean if i go for a 300 axle it has to be a defender axle or is the 300 defender axle the only one that will fit my 90 Smile Graham

I'd go with 300tdi axles, either defender or discovery as they have the stronger 24 spline shafts. Obviously the flange on the rear diff will have to be changed if you buy discovery axles but that's a pretty easy job. Defender ones should fit straight on.

200tdi defender and discovery axles are only 10 spline and IIRC all defender 200tdi axles have drums.

I just fitted disco 300tdi axles to my 90 drive flange is an easy swap and if you can swap axles I'm sure you can make up some new brake lines. I think you can pick up a cheap flaring tool for just over £10

Cheer's guys i have bagged myself one off a V8 disco with A.B.S. sensors so assume its the same as a 300tdi one Smile Graham
