Hi Adafish I saw your post heret about adapting the puma style dash on a earlier defender. I too am in the process of doing this and I wanted to find out if you were able to wire up the time clock in the center. I actually run a Land Rover repair shop in the Caribbean island of Trinidad. Kind Regards Ed |

Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Hi Guys Here is my Puma dash installation on a 300tdi Defender 90. I am not using the Puma instruments. I willing be using the instruments from a 300tdi discovery donar which i would adapt to fit into the bezel in the puma dash. I also installed an AC evaporator. Anyone knows how to wire up the time clock on the center of the puma dash? Ed |

Thanks for the reply Paul!
I would post a pic of the pins when I get home from work. You seem very knowledgeable about these electrical circuits. Do you work at a dealership or something? |

I don't work at a dealership
I just have a lot of experience of identifying connectors to fit Land Rovers (and other vehicles). From my experiences with Land Rover dealer's workshops, most of them wouldn't know how to repair or replace individual connectors on a wiring harness, even though Land Rover require them to hold a dedicated harness repair kit, with replacement connectors and terminals. Most dealer's workshops first line of repair, is to replace the harness Some connectors are available through JLR's connector repair kit supplier (was SPX, now Bosch), some are available from Land Rover themselves, under the part number shown in TOPIx. Some connectors are are to a BMW spec, and are made for BMW by TE (Tyco/AMP) - some of these can be sourced through BMW dealers as a spare part. On the Puma Defender, some of the connectors are Ford/VW types, which can be sourced from a VW dealer. Oh, and I only know how the clock is wired, from looking at the wiring diagram . Thanks again Paul.
See the attached pic. I inserted a border to help highlight the shape. |

I've had a look through the 6-way MQS connectors, and this one looks a likely suspect -
Connector 'Face' . Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Paul. 1989 Arles Blue 2.5TD 110 Hardtop 1999 Epsom Green Discovery II 4.0 V8i 'XS' |

This looks right. How can I source this? I am looking for 3 of them as I am currently doing 3 Puma dash installations. Ed |

Hi Ed,
That connector is made-up from a female terminal housing, of which, there a couple of possible types - . And a cover, or shield - . I don't have either bits - although, I do have some 6-way female terminal housings of the correct pitch - but, I'm not sure if they will fit the above cover. I can get these bits, and have ordered some, which won't be with me for about another week. The parts I've ordered are Ford 'Restricted' items - so, are probably the correct type. We'll see when they get here. . Hi Paul
Thanks for the update. Maybe I can do some measurements for you to compare with the terminal housings that you expect to receive next week? Ed |

Hi Guys
I am in the process of setting up the instruments in the puma dash. I am using instruments from a discovery 1 as these should be easy to connect. They also fit well into the puma instrument binnacle (see picture 2). I have experience in fitting the speedometer from a discovery 1 on a defender so that one is considered done. In terms of the other three in the pictures, I noticed that each has three connectors. I assume that these would correspond to positive (ignition). negative and signal. I will post my progress soon. Hey Ed - your hybrid instrument binnacle looks really good
I've been meaning to get back to you, as I now have (what I think are) the connectors to fit the Puma's time clock. I haven't had the time ( ) to take any pictures of them to post here, and I'm off out this evening, and then off to the LRO show at Peterborough for the weekend - so, I'll try and get something posted on Monday.
