Germany 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Baltic Blue
Update:

I have now driven about 200km in pouring rain over the past 2 days and although there were a few drops of water visible in the pipe, none of it got into the airbox. In any event, there is a drain hole right next to the new intake aperture so it would never get to the filter Thumbs Up

Most importantly, the 110 feels lovely - revs freely beyond 3000 rpm (I never liked going up that far) and just feels loose and growly, like a really deep long fart Laughing

I would definitely recommend this mod to those with a remap etc. where widening the original intake (or using the fresh air intake) just isn't possible. It was actually incredibly easy... in retrospect Wink

Ze pleased you got the results you wanted, and thanks for sharing your experience for the rest of us to learn from

I keep looking at mine and think I'm going to do something that ends underneath what was the blank on the wing (I wont be wading) I already have a KBX wing top with a nice big open space below it. I was impressed by how much difference the air box and propeller mod made with no other engine mods (except altered crank case breather) definitely a happier engine but clearly the standard pipework is still restrictive even for a standard engine. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

EGT gauge fitted this morning:

Fitted sensor just downstream of the turbo - not ideal (but there will be only a few degrees difference) but saved having the manifold off again (too risky pushing filings through the turbo):

Through the bulkhead - made a slit for the plug then sealed everything with Sikaflex:

Played game of "cable spaghetti" then used (even more) cable ties to keep everything tidy. Dash out, hole cut with dremel, wired up to lighter connections, then gauge and dash back in:

€280! My ram air hose was £15 with the finishing ring and the LHD snow cowl was £24. Total £39. That's a no brainer in my book.

So having driven from Wiltshirw to Oban yesterday (470 miles) I am happy to report that the mod was worth doing. The vehicle pulls better across the whole rev range and I am able to drive up long hills in mostly 6th gear with occasional changes down to 5th. This was pulling our heavy caravan and with a full roof rack.

Now covered with one of my Aluminium snow cowls painted body colour.


I also do a 102mm hose kit to breath through the standard air intake hole - but doesn't fit if you have ABS... and very tight past the aerial.
