New Ingenium Engine Family
More details here:

http://newsroom.jaguarlandrover.com/en-in/...e%20Family

but two facts that amazed me were:

1. 17% less friction - in the first Ingenium engine to go into volume production, a 2.0-litre diesel known as AJ200D, friction is reduced by 17 per cent compared to the current engine, helping to make it one of the most efficient and responsive 2.0-litre turbo diesels in its segment; and

2. 80kg lighter - despite adding features and increasing power output, Ingenium engines weigh as much as 80kg less than today's equivalent engines.

Although I do worry about the relative merits of computer-controlled variable oil & water pumps - yes it may save some Co2 but the added complexity and cost for owners might be a major downside.

OK it's Jaguar but still interesting to think what if Land Rover picked it up.

Majorly complex, meaning majorly expensive to fix/repair. Sign of the times mind you - why make an internal combustion engine simple and cheap when you can make it complex and expensive?

1 word. Emissions.

Like the Gemini 200TDi engine Wink Simple engine Ok there is an emission problem but I still think the 200 and 300 TDi engines are brilliant. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Thursday last week Martin, myself and Ken took part in guided tour around the new Ingenium JLR factory thanks to DiscoStu. Must say it was very impressive JLR have spent thousands on this engine, I wouldn't say its an over complicated engine. More a case of very precise casting, manufacture and assembly Thumbs Up 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

^^The new 2.0L Diesel engine is yes.

Having stripped and rebuilt a number of these 2.0L Ingenium Diesel's over the past few months, I'll be honest...It's not an overly complicated engine. It's very advanced, but not as complicated as it could be. It's a very nice engine in my opinion, and much nicer to work on than the current 2.2 Td4, and the 2.0GDi engine. An engine to TDi for!

Interesting to read what they have to say about the engine in this report:

Which is better? BMW X3 versus Land Rover Discovery Sport versus Mercedes-Benz GLC

"But that interior space has to put up with a certain amount of noise from the 178bhp Ingenium engine as well as a bit of vibration. Not only is it the weakest engine here, but it’s also the least refined. And this is their new range of engines."

"That diesel engine also starts to work better as speeds rise, and it smoothes out, while consistently pulsing out serious amounts of torque."

http://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/motoring/m...d-10948208

Interesting quote on JLR getting help with the engine:

"Most automakers won’t give FEV credit for the work it does, but the company did “significant development” on Chrysler’s Pentastar V6 and Jaguar Land Rover’s new Ingenium family of four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines."
