Road Tax and commercial Pumas?

Does a 110 SW with the very rear windows replaced with side panels and no 2 rear seats count as a commercial vehicle for VED?

Only if the log book is registered as such.

a defender 110 sw with the utillty pack is still classed as a car not LGV and cannot be changed the log book code from the dealer will show a car so they can not be changed

but you can claim the vat back

Thats not entirely true

You can get a PLG changed to commercial there is a mechanism to do that - but it has to satisfy the criteria.

I never use the backseats in my Defender, but I wanted the luxuries of a CSW, so can I take the back seats out and then only pay commercial road tax?

Or do I have to shag up all the fixings so I cant put the seats back in?

It does pi$$ me off that I have 4 transits, same engine, 3 seats and only normal road tax, bigger emissions, more roadspace required, yet cheaper, even road tax is now aimed at wealth!

You can change the vehicle type on the registration document. You have to alter the vehicle to suit the DVLA's requirements. You then make an appointment with your local DVLA office and a 'little Hitler' will check that the vehicle fulfils the requirements and if he is happy. They will issue a new Reg Doc.

Andrew - does RD in picture classify as commercial then?

It seems this is something LR should be offering us, ie they sell the vehicle and you can claim the VAT back but its reg PLG, surely if you ordered it new with the side panels the dealer could submit it and get the document changed - now just find a dealer that will do it!

Land Rover Do - although i have fell out with them at the minute! If you look in the catalogue it tells you which one. You can buy a 110 which is basically a 90 CSW xs with a van and it will be a commercial.

Yes what you do is change it to commercial - involves shagging fixings so it can be seen you arent going home to put the seats in and get it assessed. Somethimes you then have to go to a VOSA station for assessment - depending on what you have done.

James,
I may be able to help with the appropriate security bolts if the seat mounts are M10 (they are approved for use in these circumstances)
