Just did some calculations. Seems if I bought a roofrack and put the wife and two kids up top I would be exceeding the recommended load weight, not to mention the effect on the aerodynamics of the Defender. Looks like they will be staying inside for the time being. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Before using a roof rack you might want to have a look at just what holds up the roof on a 110. All that weight ends up concentrated on the rear quarter panels. Hit a few large bumps and you might find your rear quarter panels around the lights suddenly become rather crumpled. In my opinion the roof on a defender does not have a large safety margin just supporting itself...
