Cross Contact Tyres
Hi Mike
I have recently taken delivery of brand new Defender which is fitted with Cross Contact AT tyres. The vehicle has covered 800 Miles and has never been off roaded.
On two tyres on opposite sides i can clearly see splits half way down the tyre wall. I have looked closely at the damage and i can not see any impact damage from potholes (i would expect a 4x4 tyre to be a little more resistant to these anyway) and the splits are multiple splits rather than a single clean cut from a knife. I have owned many Land Rovers in the past and i have never seen damage like this on side walls especially given the size and the tough construction of these tyres and also considering it has only been driven on the road.
It is the first time i have had a car with Continental tyres on, do you know if this a known problem with Cross Contact AT tyres?

Hello,

I am sorry to hear about this.

In answer to your question, no this isn't something I have heard of before. It seems very early to be having this sort of problem if no impact damage has taken place.

Many Thanks

Mike
