Turbo Hoses- what to replace with?
Hey guys,

Part of my ongoing working through the pile of bits which need fixing is my turbo hoses.

Mine are saturated with oil, and feel like one of those sauce packets that come with a stir fry ready meal- no structural integrity.

So the question is what to replace them with?

I don't want hideous blue hoses poking out as to my eye they shout boy racer so what is recommended?

I have seen sameco hoses and they look good but are they worth the cost.

Stick with genuine (if I can still get them) but no idea how much that would cost?

To the tuners on the site, is there any hard evidence to show that a silicone hose will make any difference in power or reliability in comparison to standard hoses?

Your thoughts and comments, as ever, gratefully received Bow down Bow down

silicone hoses are tons better than standard , they miles thicker and stronger and as far as I know don't go all mushy with a bit of oil in them

don't think you would ever notice a performance improvement
I didn't want blue or green etc so got black ones

Have you had a hose split or blow at all? If not maybe stick with genuine. If you feel you want to spend a little more then go for the added toughness of a silicone hose, and choose normal looking black if the blue is too boy-racer for you.

Very Happy

Thanks for the comments guys!! Bow down Bow down

Found that Terraferma do a set of black silicone hoses for 38 quid so I figure its worth a punt?

K9F - Thanks for the recommendation but I think my inter cooler has got a few miles in it yet before I look at replacing it!

OHH I see.

Yeah suppose I could do though the originals are still good enough for purpose but maybe in the next 20 years will look at it again Thumbs Up

Yes it was the pipes either side I was referring to. With all the recent chafing events and leaking whistling pipes of late on here stainless for me is a no brainer. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Totally sounds reasoning to me Thumbs Up

Tdi's don't seem to have the same issue there though but will definitely bear it in mind for the future.

Wasn't aware it was a TDI sorry. But if it's a keeper and as it's an established model stainless ones may be easy to come by perhaps? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I put black terrafirma ones on my 200 the other week - some were a little longer than the originals, which meant it took a little bit of faffing, but otherwise they're great, much tighter than the 20-odd year old things that fell/came off.

No noticeable difference in power.

Just an update on this, went for some black terrafirma ones and no complaints after 5000 miles Thumbs Up

Good bit of kit, bit of an arse to fit as some were a bit longer than necessary but swear at it and fight it a bit and all will fit.

Top tip though!

Get a bit of emery paper and rough up the inside of the hose where you want to clamp, doesn't need to be much just enough to take the shine off. This will stop the silicone from slipping off under pressure!

Also, once you have assembled the pipes, give them a good wiggle and check to make sure the pipes are all pointing the right way and not in any danger of being rubbed or rattling against anything.

I've never had a water hose blow. But silicon does look cool and have a longer lifespan I suppose. Water ones are still OEM on mine. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
