Been a busy couple of months at work so not much time to move on with the double-din head unit install ... until today Very Happy

After a bit of foraging and haggling at the LRO Peterborough show my 5 bargain dash and neat anodized aluminum custom-cut plate from Phil at Raptor arrived ... And it looks neat !!

Have a week off soon so will complete the install along with the tweeters and sub - then it's off to Chris at CSK for some underbody love and a few sheets of dynamat for the roof ... assuming I can stop the bloody sunroof leak at the same time !

HI All,

A professional is installing a system inclusive of dynamat this week.

Just a question about subwoofer location...

Has anyone placed a passive subwoofer in a location other than the centre cubbie? I hate to loose the cup holders and the storage. I have seen a few images in this thread of alternative locations (cargo area, top of wheel well). I also see many folks are using an underseat sub, but I would rather stay away from that.

Cheers,

Kirk

What about the seat box with the speakers ports pointing into the footwells

Sealing would be possible but difficult, yes it's ported but ideally the rest needs to be completely sealed or you'll end up with a sub in free air use.
Can't imagine it'd be that nice to practically sit on top of it and also there will be little air movement where the gap is so little,.
Using a cubby it is possible to have space and a sub with careful planning but you will need to be handy to design and make it yourself. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

I still prefer fully sealed sub boxes, they are so much easier to get right and although they aren't as powerful I feel it's easier to get a crisp punchy bass

Another vote for sealed enclosures -SQ is much better and stops that farty bass. Also preffer small subs as they can recover and hit the next beat, not blur. Find multiples work better Whistle

Focal speakers
Hi guys, I have spent the last three weekends dynamating my puma hardtop from top to bottom and would appreciate some advice on speaker selection.
I have so far installed a focal bus 8" powered sub on the bulk head behind the passenger seat and a focal FPP 4100 four channel amp behind the drivers seat. The head unit is a Sony DSX-S300BTX (in there when I bought the truck) and I have fitted a pair of Focal PC 100's to the rear, front speakers still standard and not powered through the amp.

My thoughts were to fit a pair of Focal K2 power 6.5" components to the rear and move the PC 100's to the front with the K2's tweeters replacing the the ones in the top of the dash but a mate of mine said this is not a good idea as the tweeters need to be with or close to the midrange speaker at the back?

Any ideas on the best Focal speaker set up? I didn't really want to cut the dash around to fit the 6.5's up front if I could avoid it.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Dave

Dave - is he an ICE expert? Laughing I would give it a go and see what it sound like, if you like how it sounds then sorted. So long as the electrical side such as power input and so on is correctly matched which I am sure you've hot correct just play around with it and see what it sound like to you. Just loosely fit if need be to test. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Not seen those before, Kenwood not so long ago didn't do very well on the Tweeter side of things, had none for sale.
How do they sound? Thumbs Up Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Technically your Mate is correct. Just don't wire the crossover in at the back, wire it in up front then the fronts will work correct and the 6.5 will provide plenty of mid range Whistle wiring the pc100 after the crossover should then mean it will only act as the woofer for the tweeters and thus sound correct.
