Asking for a friend.
Have some friends we have met on the road 2.2 puma. Massively over service ( for here) can’t get a C1 oil only Castrol edge C3.
What’s your thoughts, save the engine & throw the cat under the bus or leave it as it is & hope for the best?
It’s done 13,000km & another 3,000km to do. But it’s silly hot & the oil will have degraded. We do ours every 8000km.
Thoughts?

C1 and C4 are low SAPS, whereas C2 and C3 are mid saps. If the current oil is degraded I would choose C3 knowing the engine is running on the upper side of the water temp (90C and up). You can also add some DPF additive into the tank to help burning the crap inside the DPF at lower temps.
If you can find Mobil I would pick Mobil1 5W30 ESP. Puma 110" SW

Better than no oil. Toyotas with dpf can use it, so the regen works harder and more frequent oil changes. Puma 110" SW

We had a customer with a small oil leak that required regular top ups for his diesel powered Peugeot 504. He ran Esso 20w50 HDX. He was low on oil and stopped at service station but they only had Esso 20w50 HD. No X. Decided to push on and try his luck elsewhere. He didn't make it.

ANY oil is better than no oil. Fresh ok-ish oil is better than totally thrashed “good” oil.
